Title
Cast copper alloy flat axe
Description
English: Cast copper-alloy flat axe dating from the Early Bronze Age, i.e. c. 2200-1900BC. The axe is very worn on both obverse and reverse with the decoration almost obliterated and 'washed out'. The blade and sides are very worn, too. However, on the surface are still the remains of grooved decoration: rows of diagonal lines making up a zigziag pattern. Blade and top of the axe were undecorated. Axes such as this were part of the late Migdale/early Aylesford metalwork tradition (Schmidt and Burgess 1981, no. 198).
