a caver sits on a rock on the edge of a clear underground lake

Caver Mary Laycock sits on a rock on the edge of Windy City Lake, the largest and deepest body of water in Wind Cave. At this point, the cave intersects the Madison Aquifer more than 600 feet below the surface. There are most likely some cave passages below the water level, but they are not currently able to be surveyed. The water in the Lakes is some of the purest water in the world.
