Cédric Lorcé est titulaire d’un doctorat de physique des particules de l’Université de Liège en Belgique. Après sa soutenance de thèse en 2007, il réalise divers stages postdoctoraux en Belgique, en Allemagne et en France, avant de rejoindre le laboratoire national SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) de Californie. Il intègre l’École polytechnique en 2015, en tant que maître de conférences au Centre de Physique Théorique (CPhT, École polytechnique / CNRS). Cédric Lorcé s’intéresse à la chromodynamique quantique (QCD), théorie qui décrit l’interaction forte entre quarks et gluons, deux particules fondamentales constituant les protons et les neutrons. Il étudie la distribution et le mouvement de ces particules dans le but de comprendre, entre autres, l’origine du spin des protons et des neutrons. Il analyse aussi leur comportement au cours d’expériences de collisions réalisées à haute énergie ou forte intensité. Les travaux de Cédric Lorcé ont des répercussions qui dépassent largement le cadre de la QCD.
