Manuscript letter

Court St. Thursday
Dear Fanny,
I detain (sa___) for a moment to say to you in reply, that you entirely exaggerate your own conduct. There was a prodigious press, and you felt it; and both of us spoke of it. That is all. You said and did nothing, which was not most natural, simple and unaffected. I trust you will not allow the memory of it to annoy you. It has given you an experience new to you, of crowds, of travail, of life. In truth, we were the last who passed before the commotion.
I cannot (disgi__i_) that I have felt anxious, lest, through my ardor, I had led you into a difficult pass, which your strength was not (c__pete_l) to get through. If you are well, or have the (w___e) for it, then here is no occasion to think of it, except as a peculiar experience of the day.
Ever Thine, C.S.
