Letter-
Cresson. Alleghany Mts.
Penn. 21st Aug. ‘56
My dear Sir,
I am charmed to hear how much Richard is enjoying London. He deserves it all.
Yr two letters have followed me in my quest of strength. At last I am growing strong. I feel it daily. My physician forbids all mental exertion for sometime to come; but unless some relapse occurs, I count upon being myself again before many weeks, or even days [p. 2] are past.
I knew you would be pleased to hear from me directly, & therefore, have written this note.
Present my acknowledgements to the ladies, whose sympathies you kindly [announced], & believe me, my dear Mr. Dana, with much regard.
Sincerely Yours,
Charles Sumner
P.S. My recovery promises to anticipate the decrees of some of the doctors, to say nothing of the newspapers.
[endorsed:] Chas Sumner Aug 21/56
