Description

Looking north from the Prudential Building toward the John Hancock Center in 1970. The Wrigley Building is at lower left, and the top of Tribune Tower is visible at the right. The view goes up N. Michigan Avenue. The Old Water Tower looks rather insignificant in the distance, The Chicago River is at the bottom of the photo.

The John Hancock Center was the tallest building in the world outside New York City, when it was completed in 1969. It has 103 floors. The tuilding is 1,127 ft (344 m) high, 1,506 ft (459 m) with the antennas. It contains offices, 700 condominium apartments, an observation deck on the 94th floor, and a restaurant on the 95th floor.
