PLEASE, NO invitations or self promotions, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks. Monument to the Heroes of La Concepcion, a sacred monument containing the hearts of war heroes who were slaughtered at the Battle of Concepcion The Battle of Concepción was a battle fought between Chilean and Peruvian forces on July 9 and July 10, 1882. Heavily outnumbered, the Chilean detachment of 77 men was annihilated by a 1,300-strong Peruvian force, after a 27-hour fight in the small town of Concepción in the Peruvian Andes. The hearts of the four officers: Captain Ignacio Carrera Pinto, Lieutenant Julio Montt, and Second Lieutenants Arturo Perez Canto and Luis Cruz Martinez, were extracted and sent in to Santiago after the battle. In 1911, the hearts of the 4 officers killed were permanently interred with a marker dedicated to the memory of all 77 killed in these two memorable days in Chilean history. Metropolitan Cathedral is the main house of worship for Chile’s Catholic Church and the base for the country’s Archdiocese. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. |
