Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Chilmark Community Church, at 9 Menemsha Cross Road in Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, is a United Methodist church which was founded in 1810 as the Methodist Episcopal Society. The congregation's first church was moved from Edgartown in 1827 to donated land on Middle Road near Meetinghouse Road, which was at the time the center of town in Chilmark; later it was moved to the north side of Middle Road. In 1843 the current church building was dedicated on that site; it was moved to the current site in 1910. The church's bell was donated by the Oddfellows of Oak Bluffs in 1928, and a new steeple was built in 1931. The congregation changed its name to "Chilmark Community Church" in 1982 to appeal to more people. In 2002 a building was constructed behind the church which provided meeting rooms nd a place for the Sunday school, as well as a kitchen, bathrooms, and a study for the pastor. (Source: "History")
