Generation[edit]
Take data from http://faostat.fao.org/site/550/default.aspx#ancor Download the CSV data, you'll get a file like FAOSTAT_data_10-28-2017.csv
- parse the CSV table for gnuplot input file population.txt , which is $year $people whitespace separated each line
cat FAOSTAT_data*.csv | cut -d ',' -f 9,12 | tr ',' ' ' > population.txt
gnuplot script / commands :
set term svg size 800,500 dynamic font "sans-serif" set autoscale xfix set grid set style data linespoints set pointsize 0.6 unset key set ylabel "Population, billions" #set xtics add (2018) # Added for clarity, may be omitted if necessary. plot "population.txt" using 1:($2/1e6) linetype rgb "#A30000" pt 5
But for updating its easy to just add the new data line in the population.txt below:
1950 564213 1951 579768 1952 592555 1953 603472 1954 613266 1955 622536 1956 631721 1957 641112 1958 650864 1959 661025 1960 671621 1961 682740 1962 694611 1963 707639 1964 722307 1965 738904 1966 757595 1967 778135 1968 799882 1969 821937 1970 843601 1971 864706 1972 885288 1973 905106 1974 923938 1975 941655 1976 958143 1977 973487 1978 988046 1979 1002330 1980 1016750 1981 1031270 1982 1045910 1983 1061150 1984 1077600 1985 1095610 1986 1115460 1987 1136800 1988 1158670 1989 1179690 1990 1198880 1991 1215910 1992 1231000 1993 1244390 1994 1256500 1995 1267690 1996 1277980 1997 1287310 1998 1295920 1999 1304120 2000 1312130 2001 1320080 2002 1328000 2003 1335890 2004 1343740 2005 1351540 2006 1359290 2007 1367040 2008 1374800 2009 1382590 2010 1390420 2011 1398280 2012 1406130 2013 1413860 2014 1421310 2015 1428360 2016 1434970 2017 1441130
