English: Overview of chitin immune response in humans. Acidic mammalian chitinases digest chitin polymers from fungi or insects like house dust mites in smaller fragments. Intermediate chitin fragments induce the release of proinflammatory cytokines, whereas small fragments inhibit the inflammation through IL-10 release. |
