DescriptionClawdd Offa ger Castell y Waun - Offa's Dyke nr Chirk Castle, Wrexham County Borough, Wales 20.png |
Cymraeg: Clawdd Offa ger Castell y Waun, Bwrdeisdref Sirol Wrecsam.
Gwrthglawdd enfawr sy'n dilyn yn fras y ffin rhwng Cymru a Lloegr yw Clawdd Offa (Cymraeg: Clawdd Offa). Enwir y strwythur ar ôl Offa, brenin Eingl-Sacsonaidd Mersia (Lloegr) o OC 757 hyd 796, y credir yn draddodiadol iddo orchymyn adeiladu'r clawdd. Roedd yn amlinellu'r ffin rhwng yr ymosodwyr o Mersia a theyrnas Cymru.
English: Offa's Dyke nr Chirk Castle, Wrexham County Borough, Wales.
Offa's Dyke (Welsh: Clawdd Offa) is a large linear earthwork that roughly follows the border between England and Wales. The structure is named after Offa, the Anglo-Saxon king of Mercia (England) from AD 757 until 796, who is traditionally believed to have ordered its construction. It delineated the border between Anglian Mercia and the kingdom of Wales. |
