Description |
English: An incomplete lead object, possibly part of a lead cloth seal.It is roughly rectangular in shape measuring 16mm in length and 15mm in width. The front face has two rows of Roman numerals, 'XVII' and 'XVIII.' The back face is undecorated projecting from one edge there is a cylindrical shaped lead rivet, measuring 9mm in length and 5mm in width. Lead cloth seals were used from the 12th to 19th centuries to mark cloth for commercial sale. They are normally circular in shape but rectangular examples are also found. |
