Contemporary red morocco gold- and blind-tolled binding with large corners with a floral motif and central armorial stamps of Francis I, Emperor of Austria (1768-1835) framed by a double-diamond motif; blue silk doublures. This presentation binding was bound by Lodigiani of Milan (1777-1843), the greatest Italian bookbinder of his time. Signed at foot of spine "Lodisiana (six)/Rel." |
