| Description |
English: The two towers here are the transmitter sites for many TV and FM stations in Columbus, Ohio. Facing the street is the large building housing WBNS channel 10, which is actually on channel 21. WBNS and seven other TV signals radiate from the candelabra of antennas on the gray tower. Same goes for a bunch of FM stations on the same tower, known to the FCC as Antenna Structure Registration (ASR) 1040501. It was built in 1982 and with the antennas is 1029 feet tall.
The red and white tower is WBNS's original one, ASR 1040517, was built in 1956 and currently holds aloft only WBNS/97.1 FM's auxiliary backup antenna. I shot these photos from my cousin's small plane, en route from Knox County Airport, which is north of Columbus, to Burlington Airport in Burlington, NC. This was on the back end of a day trip to visit my son at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. |
