Title
Complete cast copper alloy sword pommel of probable Medieval date (AD 1200 – AD 1500).
Description
English: Complete cast copper alloy sword pommel of probable Late Medieval date (AD 1400 – AD 1500). Length 32mm, width 34mm. Weight 63.18g.

The hollow pommel is in the form of a bi-cone with a flattened top and bottom. The flattened area at the top is slightly smaller than the flattened area at the bottom. A hole within the flattened area at the top, for the tang, is sub-circular in plan and has a maximum diameter of 6mm. The tang hole within the flattened area at the bottom is an elongated sub-oval shape with a length of 12mm and a maximum width of 6.5mm.
The outer surface is divided into six vertical segments of equal proportions. Each segment is similarly decorated with a vertical voided lozenge. The field within the lozenge is plain and the field outside the lozenge is obliquely hatched (as viewed from the side). The inside of the pommel has a rough surface and it is unclear what material, if any, may have been used to fill the void. The outer surface has a dark green patina with small areas of superficial corrosion which appear to be inactive.
