Title
Complete copper alloy dress hook of Post Medieval date, probably sixteenth or seventeenth century (AD 1500 – AD 1700). Drawing: Frank Basford.
Description
English: Complete copper alloy dress hook of Post Medieval date, probably sixteenth or seventeenth century (AD 1500 – AD 1700). Length 27.4mm, width 14mm and 1.5mm thick. Weight 1.33g.

The dress hook is composed of three integral elements, the loop for securing to a garment, the decorative plate and the hook for attachment. Viewing the piece from the front, the loop is sub-rectangular in plan. The plate consists of openwork of six circular apertures, one at the centre which is closely surrounded by the five others, to form, what is possibly an abstract flower motif. The tapering rearward hook is D-shaped in cross-section, convex at the front and terminates with a blunt point. The reverse of the dress hook is flat and plain. There is a light green patina overall.
