Title
Complete copper alloy spur buckle of probable Post-Medieval date
Description
English: Complete copper alloy spur buckle with a circular frame, integral plate and a riveted attachment hook of probable Post-medieval date. Length 42mm, width, 19mm and 4.5mm thick. Weight 7.07g.

The frame is circular with a side projection each side towards the rear. The sides and outer edge slope gently outwards. A complete copper alloy pin, 16mm in length, is sub-rectangular in cross-section and tapers gently from the loop towards the blunt tip. As viewed in plan, with the frame to the left, the integral plate is divided into two sections by a transverse rib. The section of the plate, nearest to the frame, has a bevelled cusp either side of the hole which accommodates the pin. This hole for the pin is 3mm in diameter. The other section of the plate is bevelled along each side. This part of the plate has a centrally positioned copper alloy rivet to secure the forward projecting copper alloy hook. The attachment end of the plate, however, is not bevelled, as are some buckles of this type. The attachment hook is roughly D-shaped in cross-section, flat on the inside. Near the straight ended tip of the hook is a transverse groove. The underside of the plate is recessed to take the attachment hook. Beneath a surface reside of calcium carbonate the buckle has a shiny dark green patina.
