Summary[edit]

Description

c/n 1656 US Navy Bureau No 48294. Retired from US Navy service in 1956 and sold to the Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana (Ecuadorian Air Force) who operated her until 1960. She then began a varied civil career which included being converted to a liquid fuel tanker, being impounded by US Marshalls in 1985 following suspected Colombian drug operations, carrying out passenger operations in Italy and then South Africa, filming work in the UK painted in RAF Coastal Command colours and finally returning to US in 2003. Since 2003 her life has been much more reserved as she has been operated by the Military Aviation Museum based at Virginia Beach, VA, returned to military condition and repainted in an accurate WW2 colour scheme. Seen landing after taking part in the 2015 Arsenal of Democracy Flyover to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of VE Day and the end of WW2. Culpeper Regional Airport, Virginia, USA
