Title |
Copper Alloy Hooked Tag |
||
Description |
English: A sheet copper-alloy single piece hooked tag, clothing fastener. The body, or decoration plate, of the tag is triangular tapering at the point into the hook, which has broken off close to the decoration plate. The triangular plate has a border of closely set punched dots within which, in the corners of widest part of the tag are the attachment holes. The attachment holes have a diameter of 2.20mm. One of the attachment holes does not respect the decorative border but cuts through the line of punched dots. On the shortest edge of the plate, above the attachment holes, are incised parallel groves between and set at right angles from the edge and line of punched dots. Possibly of 9th century but probably of Anglo-Saxon date. A similar example can be seen in Mills, N. 2001 (p.95, item AS263). Dimensions: length 25.30mm, width 13.54mm, thickness 1.15mm, weight 1.46g. |
