Title |
copper alloy Late medieval or Post-medieval thimble |
||
Description |
English: Late medieval or Post-medieval copper alloy thimble dating 1350 to 1600AD. It is complete but slightly damaged and misshapen. There is a small hole pierced in the top. It is of 'beehive' shape, with a conical dome and slightly flared sides. There is a groove defining a band around its rim. The pits appear to have been made in vertical rows running up the sides and over the top to the centre of the dome of the thimble, leaving a bare tonsure where there is a hole. The thimble has a dark green patina.
Height 14mm and the diameter is 17mm. |
