Title
Copper alloy Medieval annular buckle
Description
English: Cast copper alloy Medieval annular buckle, dating from the 12th- 15th centuries.

It is circular and has a circular cross section. The pin is still attached, by the end being curled over the frame. It has a square cross section and tapers towards a point at the end. It has some slight decoration in the form of a concave section just by the frame, followed by a raised section then another concave section before levelling out.

Annular buckles and brooches are almost identical from this period. Egan states the difference is that buckles do not have a groove for the pin to sit in, allowing it to move freely around the frame whilst brooches have this groove, restricting movement (248).
