Title
Copper alloy clothing fastener
Description
English: A cast copper alloy clothing tag, probably an 'eye' from a hook and eye clasp fastening. The object has a moulded floral design with the remains of a white enamel ground, four attachment knops and an ornamental knop at the terminal. This design conforms to Brian Read's Class A Type 9, an early Post-Medieval form of hooked-clasp and eye fastening (Read, 'Hooked-Clasps & Eyes', p.178), although Read acknowledges that given the absence of a hook, these 'eye' like objects could also function as decorative strap ends (p.207).

This object is in fair condition, although the remaining enamel is crizzled and there is some minor surface pitting due to corrosion.
