Title |
Copper alloy figurine of a bound captive. |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy figurine of a bound captive, Roman. The figure is crouched and bound, apparently with a rope tied around the neck, wrists and under the knees. The figure has no hair. The face is represented by incised lines with a wide, flat, triangular nose, large tear shaped eyes with central dot and a straight mouth. Five short fingers are shown on each hand. There is a groove between the hands. The ribs are represented by six incised lines on each side, and two shallow grooves on the back of the figure emphasise the prominent backbone. The figure has no feet - this appears to be deliberate - the figurine does not appear to be broken. The rope appears to be quite realistically represented, with a twist below the hands where it goes around the knees, although the detail is hidden by soil concretions at the neck and below the knees. There is a circular hole between the arms and knees, possibly for suspension. Dark grey green patina, some concreted soil adhering. Length 40.38mm, width (from back to hands) 24.06mm, thickness 12.7mm, weight 36.68g. |
