Title |
copper alloy post-medieval dress hook |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy dress hook dating to the early post-medieval period.
The dress hook has a rectangular frame of width 12.97mm for attachment to the item of clothing. This moves towards openwork foliate design. There is a collar between the foliate metalwork and the shaft of the hook. The shaft of the hook itself is 11.78mm in length and 2.59mm in width and has historically broken so does not curve back towards the foliate design. The reverse is flat with no evidence for detailing. This object is a Read Class E, Type 8 sharp-hooked clasp (Read 2008: 116) and is similar to number 476. |
