Title
Copper alloy shoe buckle from the 18th century
Description
English: Copper alloy shoe buckle from the 18th century.

The buckle has an integral plate. The strap bar at the top is rectangular. At each end is a circle which has a central circular perforation. The tops of the circles appear broken.

The plate is in the shape of a wide crescent, leaving a semi-circular hole for the pin to span. The pin is a strip of copper alloy folded over the strap bar.

The front of the buckle is decorated with punched ring and dot designs. The edge is lined with ring and dot and in the centre is a swirly design made up of them also.

A similarly decorated buckle but with a different shape plate can be seen in the Meols publication, pages 217/218 (Egan, Griffiths and Philpott; 2007).
