Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A crowd of finely dressed people gather around a man reading from a document or book. The man stands on top of a cut stone, and an unfinished masonry wall appears in lower left foreground of the photograph. Notes with the photograph indicate this is a cornerstone ceremony in Knoxville, Illinois in 1899. A well dressed African-American man stands in the front of the crowd.
