Summary
[edit]DescriptionCranwell, St Andrew's church (39843594270).jpg |
The church origins date from the 11th century with some long and short work in the north east angle of the nave. The church consists of a nave with north aisle, chancel, vestry, and south porch. There is no tower, the west end of the nave having a 17th century bellcote. The nave has a Norman four bay north arcade with round arches, and circular piers with scalloped capitals. There are various pieces of a Saxon cross decorated with interlace in the north aisle. Much of the rest of the church was rebuilt during the Early English period. The chancel is perpendicular, rebuilt in 1903. There is an octagonal tub font and a restored wooden screen from the 15th C. The nave and north aisle roof is from the same period. There is a heavily restored 15th C south door. The north aisle was rebuilt in 1812, and there was a restoration by Fowler in 1903-4. The church has several stained glass windows by Bryans. There is a small organ by Cousans. |
