Object history
Deutsch: Der gevierte Schild war das Wappen der Herren von Nellingen, das später auch die gleichnamige Gemeinde führte. Zur Vogtei Nellingen gehörten auch die Orte Ruit und Scharnhausen. Das Mühlrad entstammt dem Kemnater Wappen, und die Farbgebung wurde dem Ruiter Wappen entlehnt. Im Körschtal gab es früher viele Mühlen; das Mühlrad soll die landwirtschaftliche Vergangenheit der heutigen Stadt symbolisieren.
English: The quarterly divided shield is taken from the arms of the former municipality of Nellingen. The millwheel is symbolizing the watermills in the Körsch valley. Its colours are representing the other parts of Ostfildern. On 1 January 1975 Nellingen auf den Fildern, Ruit auf den Fildern, Kemnat and Scharnhausen merged.
