Burbach gehörte bis zum 16. Jahrhundert zur Fürstabtei Prüm. Die Zugehörigkeit zur Abtei Prüm wird durch eine Mitra dargestellt.

Kirchen- und Ortspatron von Burbach ist seit alters her die heilige Margareta. Sie führt als Zeichen einen Kreuzstab. Ihr Zeichen ist im oberen Schild in der Form des Vortragekreuzes wiedergegeben.
