Object history
Deutsch: Der Ort, 988 im Zusammenhang mit Besitzrechten des Bistums Worms erstmals erwähnt, war seit dem 13. Jahrhundert und bis 1802 wormsisches Lehen der Herren von Helmstadt und erhielt in der zweiten Hälfte des 14. Jahrhunderts Stadtrecht. Das Wappen wird seit 1898 geführt. Es symbolisiert den Ortsnamen (bis 1806 nur Bischofsheim) und geht zurück auf das älteste bekannte Gerichtssiegel von 1766, das einen Bischof mit Krummstab, begleitet von tulpenartigen Arabesken, zeigt. Die heutige Tingierung wurde 1950 anlässlich der Wiederverleihung des Stadttitels festgelegt, die Flagge am 22. Februar 1963 durch das Innenministerium verliehen.
