Deutsch: Schutzpatrom des Ortes und der Pfarrkirche ist St. Remigius. Remigiuspatronzinien weisen auf ein hohes Alter der Kirche hin. Attribut des hl. Remigius ist eine Taube mit Ölkrug. Sie ist im oberen Schildteil wiedergegeben.
Während der Feudalzeit gehörte Retterath, zuletzt als kurtrierisches Lehen, zur Grafschaft Virneburg. Im Ort "befand sich auf erzstiftlich Trierischer Grundherrschaft ein gräflich Virneburgisches Hochgericht, welches mit 3 Heimburgen (Retterath, Mannebach und Lirstal) und 7 Schöffen besetzt war (Weistum 1468: Grimm 2, S. 609)" (Fabricius S. 379). Die Virneburger Rauten stehen im unteren Schildteil. Sie sind ebenfalls enthalten in einer freundlicherweise om Landeshauptarchiv übersandten Aufnahme eines Gerichtssiegels von Retterath aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, (LHA Abt. 1 C, Nr. 11 470, S. 227) |
