Deutsch: Der Name Schutterwald begegnet 1293 erstmals als Waldbezeichnung, 1351 wird das Dorf Schutterwald genannt, das als hoch- oder spätmittelalterliche Rodungssiedlung anzusehen ist. Auf den Namen und die Entstehung des Ortes dürfte sich auch das Wappenbild beziehen, das nach dem ältesten Gerichtssiegel Schutterwalds gestaltet ist. Davon sind Abdrucke von 1456 und 1492 erhalten. Sie zeigen einen bewurzelten Baum mit tief herunterhängenden Ästen. Während das wohl aus dem 18. Jahrhundert stammende Siegel auf der Huldigungsliste von 1811 den Baum im Wappenschild noch nach diesem älteren Muster zeigt, erscheint der Baum in den Stempeln des 19. Jahrhunderts ohne Wurzeln. Zeichnung und damit nähere Bestimmung des Baumes als Linde und Tingierung des Wappens wurden vom Generallandesarchiv im Jahre 1900 festgelegt, die Flagge vom Innenministerium am 27. Februar 1973 verliehen. |
