Object history Der Schild zeigt in der Spitze den Wappeninhalt der Namengebenden Stadt; der vordere Schildteil verweist auf die ehemalige Zugehörigkeit eines Teils der Gemeinden in der Verbandsgemeinde zur hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim, der Löwe im hinteren Schildteil auf die ehemalige Zugehörigkeit von Gemeinden der Verbandsgemeinde zur Grafschaft Veldenz. Genehmigt durch Erlaß des Ministeriums des Innern vom 15. Juni 1965.
