Title |
Damaged double oval buckle |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete copper-alloy buckle of post-medieval date. The object consists of half of the frame and a damaged plate and pin from a double loop buckle probably dating from the 16th century. The remaining half of the loop is D-shaped and has a sloping outer edge with cast leaf-style decoration. The central bar is circular in section and protrudes slightly at the top and bottom of the frame. The plate is bent around the bar. It is irregular in shape, mirroring the vine leaf style decoration to its upper surface. The reverse is flat and plain. The pin slot is bent and damaged and the ?lead-alloy pin has become detached. The two halves of the plate would originally have been held together by two rivets. These are now missing, the only remaining evidence for them being the small circular rivet holes, one located at each end on both sides of the folded plate. Overall, the piece measures 43.8mm long by 25.9mm high and 10.1mm thick. It weighs 11.73g. |
