Summary[edit]

Description
English: Plaque on the western wall of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus. The text is from the 36th and 37th verses of the surah of the Light (النور):

36. (It is) in houses which Allah has permitted to be exalted and His name to be remembered therein. Therein do glorify Him, in the mornings and the evenings,
37. Men whom neither merchandise nor selling diverts -- from the remembrance of Allah and the keeping up -- of prayer and the paying of the poor-rate. [...]

Follows a mention of the restoration of the mosque by Hafez al-Assad in 1414 AH, that is 1993.
