| Description | Tot 1170 was Texel verbonden met het vasteland; door de Allerheiligenvloed van 1170 werd het een eiland. In 1415 verkreeg het stadsrechten, en in de 17e en 19e eeuw werd Eierland verbonden met Texel en werd het daar onderdeel van. Tussen Texel en Eierland groeiden duinen maar de natuur laat zich niet altijd dwingen. Zo laten de duinen langs de zeekust zich niet sluiten. Een Zanddijk is de oplossing tegen overstroming. De opening langs de zeekust heet De Slufter en loopt met eb en vloed onder met water. Zomers is dit wat minder heftig dan in de wintertijd. In de Slufter is een prachtig natuurgebied ontstaan met prachtige planten wat veelvuldig bezocht wordt door vogels. Vanaf het voorjaar tot tegen het najaar is het grootste gebied gesloten voor publiek. |
