Description
English: Group photograph depicting United States President John F. Kennedy (center) pushing a button to activate the nation's first salt-water conversion plant located at the Dow Chemical Company facility in Freeport, Texas. Flanking President Kennedy are Dow president Dr. Leland I. Doan (left) and Dow Gulf Coast vice president Dr. A.P. Beutel (right). Per notations accompanying the photograph, simultaneous ceremonies attended by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, First Lady Claudia "Lady Bird" Johnson, Secretary of Interior Steward L. Udall, and Dow board chairman Dr. Carl A. Gerstacker were held at the Freeport facility.
