Summary[edit]

Description

The Palestinians in Gaza call the situation The Great Right of Return March. They want to return to their homeland which they lost 70 years ago to Israel during the 'The Nakba' or catastrophe. They lost their land in Palestine during the 1947-1949 war that killed thousands of Palestinian Jews and Palestinian Arabs and turned thousands of Palestinian Arabs into permanent refugees.

Today, the Gaza Strip is often referred to as the world's largest open air prison. Two million people live a precarious and extremely dangerous existence there. Hamas controls everything they do. Israel controls all access to the strip including air, land and seat routes. Unemployment levels are around 60% of able bodied males.

So the people are marching towards the border wall that encloses them. Israeli snipers shoot women, children, members of the press wearing identifying vests, nurses trying to help the wounded, even an 8 month old child who pose a threat to Israel or try to cross the border without proper documentation. The snipers use bullets that explode on contact with human flesh and bone.

Yet still these people march towards the border wall. They want their freedom and to live with dignity and opportunity again. So far around 123 people have been shot dead and hundreds more wounded.
