Français : Ananda, disciple du Bouddha Shakyamuni. Chine du Nord, province du Hebei (?). Dynastie Sui (581-618), fin du 6e ou début du 7e siècle. Marbre avec traces de polychromie. Musée Guimet. Cette figure du jeune disciple, connu pour sa douceur, sa dévotion et son intelligence ou sa mémoire parfaite de la doctrine, est aussi celle de celui qui plaida en faveur de l'acceptation des femmes dans la communauté.
