Seen here is a model-based reconstruction of life on an ancient seafloor during the Ediacaran Period, in the late Neoproterozoic. This is a public exhibit at the Nebraska State Museum of Natural History in Lincoln, Nebraska. Some of these organisms are inaccurately represented, based on fossil findings and interpretations made after the diorama was constructed. Depicted organisms here include Dickinsonia, Tribrachidium, Parvancorina, Spriggina, Kimberella, and Pteridinium. The jellyfish-like organisms have since been interpreted as soft-bodied holdfasts. Kimberella was once interpreted as a cubozoan jellyfish (= near-bottom center), but it has since been considered a mollusc, mollusc ancestor, or mollusc-like organism. |
