Summary[edit]

Description

When Katrina and Rita struck the Gulf Coast, numerous wild dolphins were displaced in the storm surge. Many dolphins were found in storm ditches, canals and even a golf course pond.

NOAA Fisheries Service biologists--whom are highly trained in the stranding and rescue of marine mammals--worked closely with federal and state partners, including the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (pictured).
