Title |
double-looped oval buckle frame |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper-alloy double-looped buckle frame. The frame is flat and oval, with a simple central offset bar. The frame is rounded in cross-section with the underside of the frame bevelled or hollowed out; both edges are angled. The pin is missing, together with any plate or strap; several grooved lines remain on one outside edge of the frame to show where the pin would have rested, but there is no notch. The inside edge is damaged and flattened slightly, which may have happened during manufacture. The buckle frame is in good condition with a polished deep green patina. Similar buckle frames are illustrated by Whitehead (1996, no. 278, dated to c. 1650 to c. 1720) and Read (1995, no. 916, dated to c. 1600-1650). They may have been shoe buckles. |
