Description |
English: Horizontal rectangle. In the center is a circular frame with a woman wrapped in a coat, so that only the nose and the eyes are unprotected, possibly representing Winter. Above are festoons from which entwined garlands hang. On both sides a paper with an inscription is put upon a slope. The motif at right includes two oil lamps. Below at right is a bird standing upon two chalices, with two griffins sitting below upon a base. At left is a tripod; two legs supporting the bowl of a lamp are visible. Below the circle are crossed branches. (RB '45)
Roundel with a vestal, flanked by grotesques, for decoration over mirror, noble cabinet, Palazzo Altieri. (PDM '91) |
