Title |
Drawing of Roman figurine's head |
||
Description |
English: Small copper-alloy head which may be that of Minerva. It is wearing a rounded hat or helmet set far back on the head, with a possible lock of curly hair emerging down either side. All of the features are large; rounded eyes, a worn nose, and a mouth with two lips. Below the head is a narrowed neck, then the figurine widens out. There is a double moulding around each side, possibly indicating a collar, and on the front is a rectangular bump which may be the 'aegis' or breastplate worn by Minerva. Below this, the figurine narrows again to become rectangular in cross-section, with rounded corners, measuring 3 x 5 mm. This forms a kind of peg which is slightly bent just before what may be an old break. The figurine is not in very good condition, being rather worn and corroded. |
