English: Dress, "Maroon grosgrain two-piece dress with panels of velvet embossed silk and bead trimming. Made in England by J W Brightland mantle and costume maker, Market St. Leicester in 1887. Altered sometime before 1917 for a social occasion, it was displayed in 1969 at Kerikeri's 150th Anniversary. Made for Mrs Needham of Syston, Leicester for her daughter's wedding in 1887." Woman's burgundy grosgrain silk dress comprising bodice and skirt; with panels of (cut) velvet and heavy trim; the bodice with high collar, gigot sleeves, button up cf with bow trim to back of collar-Renaissance revival style. “DRESS silk grosgrain, maroon and velvet embossed silk - passementerie trim. (two piece). Bodice tight fitting – long front. Shaped short back – front fastening with small buttons. Very high neck swathed with small ruche at nape. Sleeves high puffs over shoulders – fitted lower arms – waist line and arms with trim – velvet front panel. Fully lined and boned. Skirt gored and shaped over hips. Embossed velvet panels in front. Gathers at back to fall in small train with pleated frill at hem line. All lined. Maker J.W. Brightland.”
