Title
Dress Hook
Description
English: Silver dress hook of Read's Class D type 5, Gainster's Group 1 (ornamental hooks with bars). Details of manufacture unclear, the heart-shaped plate may be solid but it is possible that it has a repousse face with a plain backing plate. The plate is in the form of three conjoined lobes with a beaded edge. Each lobe contains a raised boss set within a raised ring with four smaller bosses, one in the centre of the plate and the others between the large bosses. On the underside of the plate is a transverse attachment bar (11.8mm long x 1.9mm wide) and a round sectioned (2.3mm diameter) pointed hook, the other end flattened for soldering to the back of the plate. Length 23.1mm, Width 14.2mm, Thickness (maximum) 5.5.mm, Mass 3.18g.
