The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of a thick blanket of dust over Iraq and Saudi Arabia on October 29.

Description
English: An immense cloud of dust and sand blew over the Middle East in the closing days of October 2017, turning skies red, shutting down airline flights, and sickening several hundred people. According to a story published by The Watchers, the visibility in Erbil, the capital city of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, the visibility dropped to less than 300 meters (984 feet). As many 485 people visited emergency hospitals in Erbil, with over 150 of those admitted to the hospital. Most of the people sickened were already suffering from other chronic illness prior to the storm, and their conditions were worsened by the dust. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of a thick blanket of dust over Iraq and Saudi Arabia on October 29. The swirling storm is so massive that the land is completely obscured from view, including most of Lake Therthar, between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers.
