Description
English: Heavy winds blew across the Gobi Desert in early April 2018, raising large massive amounts of dust into the atmosphere. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the Gobi’s blowing sands on April 1. The Gobi Desert stretches over parts of northern China and southern Mongolia. Home to a variety of landscapes, from grassy plain to bare rock and seas of sand, the Gobi is one of the world’s most prolific dust-producing regions. Dust storms may occur at any time of the year but are most common and most massive in springtime.
