Description
English: A long plume of Saharan dust snaked through the skies over southwestern Algeria and northern Mali in early April 2016. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite captured this true-color image on April 6. The dust plume, which appears slightly lighter than the earth-toned land below it, broadens and thins in the western section of the image, suggesting that it originates in the east and is travelling generally westward. Large sand seas make up much of the landscape of southwestern Algeria and dust storms are a common occurrence - and the primary natural hazard of the region.
