Description
English: Dust poured across Pakistan and over the Gulf of Oman in early January 2019. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of dust storm on January 5. Much of the dust appears to originate near the border with Afghanistan, in the north, but the widespread nature of the veil of sand makes it clear that there are many sources rather than a single point. Dust extends from Iran, in the west of the image across Pakistan and over the Indus River Valley in the east. Dust storms are the most common natural hazard in this region.
